Creation of a graphic identity

When Maritime Cooperation came to see us, it was about to launch Amarrée, a support program for fishermen to help them save energy. At that time, it had no identity, no website, no communication document. Everything had to be imagined. The client presented us with their project, desires, and needs, and from there we thought about a global graphic universe for the brand. We designed a logo of course, but also created a whole graphic language incorporating elements derived from maritime signage codes. We like to work this way at agency 148. We enable a brand to have several graphic elements to speak on its behalf and thus be recognizable in different ways, with just a color or a shape for example. We also provided the client with the graphic charter that frames the use of these different elements. Thanks to this charter, the client is autonomous in the use of their brand identity.

The focus of the website design: Supporting fishermen in their energy savings

Fishing vessels are major consumers of fuel. This consumption has a significant impact both environmentally and commercially. To encourage fishermen to save energy, the Maritime Cooperation has launched the Amarrée program. This initiative is accompanied by a tool that helps every fishing vessel owner in their daily activities; a true dashboard, it provides them with the means to make savings. The website created by Agency 148 serves as a communication support for this initiative but is also a useful and practical ally for fishermen to reduce and optimize their energy consumption.

Technical content and a modern design

One of the important points of the client's creative brief was to give a modern and innovative image of the Amarrée program. Our creatives created a graphic identity with a logo that is both coherent for the main users of the site (fishermen) and attractive to the general public. They then developed a universe inspired by maritime signage. The Maritime Cooperative also wanted each page of the site to be designed like a slide of an educational presentation, which strongly guided the web design work.

We were able to create a rather design-oriented site for a topic that doesn't seem to lend itself to that at first glance.
Gaétan, Artistic Director at agency 148

One of the features of the site is the member area. Containing a lot of data, the user interface (UI) of this space was designed to be as practical and readable as possible. The rest of the site, on the other hand, was more aimed at being appealing to the general public. We therefore looked for JavaScript libraries that would allow us to visualize data in a pleasant way to make statistics almost sexy!

The issue of data management

The Amarrée project generates a significant issue in managing technical data for which the maritime cooperative needs advice on structuring.

In order to know its fuel consumption, each ship is equipped with a sensor that collects a set of data. We had to implement a process that allows us to retrieve information from each sensor, and then visually organize all these elements within the member space.

We fully trusted the teams at 148 in terms of both design and technical aspects, and we were not disappointed.
Maryam Barjon, communication officer of Amarrée

We established a process where the maritime cooperative is autonomous in updating the sources, which is essential for the sustainability of the site. It is enough for them to upload a .csb file within the back office for the data curves of each ship to be integrated into the site. We also set up an API (application programming interface) that broadcasts the price of a barrel of oil in real time, useful for each sailor to better manage the costs related to their fuel consumption. All these elements of data visualization and information were determined during prior meetings with the maritime cooperative. This advisory dimension was fundamental for the smooth running of the project.

Flexibility, responsiveness, and creativity are the keys to success.

The client-agency relationship of the Amarrée project has been particularly remarkable as each party was able to listen to the other. Indeed, our teams had to understand the issues faced by fishermen in order to propose suitable solutions. On the other side, the Amarrée team was able to discover and learn about the know-how of technical web development!

Thanks to this project, we have all been able to explore the particularly rich and complex world of fishermen.
Pauline, project manager at agency 148

The most delicate part of the project was to make this site useful for fishermen so that they could implement real energy reductions. Always on the move, and being somewhat of a novice with web tools, it was necessary to engage and be relevant. Beyond enabling precise knowledge of fuel consumption, the program offers fishermen, through the catalog section of the site, advice on equipment replacement and upgrades.

With all this data and advice, we can affirm that the Amarrée site helps fishermen reduce their environmental impact. For us, it is a project that aligns with our values!
